What’s going on
Hi everyone. Have been overrun with work lately and no time to post so making a quick update.
Things with Sora have been going great. It is incredible how he gets around the house. He’s learned “down” properly now and we’ve trained him “wait” which was difficult without hand signals. Fortunately he’s very food motivated :). He may even be *finally* ending his desire to climb into my lap from the back seat when I’m driving! That one was definitely a bit challenging.
While out on the leash, Sora is great. Seeing him start to walk with a higher gait when we tell him “step up” when outside is truly remarkable. I really need to post some videos actually. In fact, he gets around so well we’re having to constantly remind ourselves that Sora is blind. It’s wonderful how people commend us for taking him in, but it’s honestly very little extra effort. I wish more people could see that as I am sure it’d lower the barriers to adopting other disabled / injured / pets with special needs. He’s the one who deserves the praise really as he remains completely trusting and unaffected by the incident other than the obvious physical problems. People we meet in the street are still so blown away by him too. He’s a big hit over at the local pet shop and is usually showered with hugs and treats when we go inside!
On the health front, he continues to do well. He’s gaining weight slowly and has plenty of energy. His scars have cleared up tremendously. We took him for a checkup again this weekend as his nose is still quite dry and we’ve noticed he has a cracked tooth. It looks like we’ll need to book him in for some dental work so I’ve left a message with a good dental vet – hopefully we can get that resolved soon. There’s a v small lump on Sora’s head that we need to keep an eye on too.
Here’s a couple of pics from the last two weeks.
Sora on the beach at La Push, WA (we drove all day to get there & back). This was Sora’s first time to see the sea while he was with us – he was pretty cool with it actually.
This is a shot that Akuri took. I love this picture.
Sora deciding he has to sit in my lap while we’re out (Akuri took this too, was a couple of weeks ago)
