End of Week One

27 September 2009 No Comment

Week one has gone great… So many positives, it’s easy to forget so let me list them:

*  Sora’s settled in nicely, gets on amazingly with everyone he meets and has integrated into our family as if he was always here. He’s constantly showered with affection

* He’s familiarized himself with the house really quickly. Sora has a free run of the house and is able to get around wherever he wants to go by himself. Incredible to watch. It wasn’t without challenges though – first time up / down the stairs took 15 minutes each way. He’s able to do it quickly now and without supervision as I realised tonight !.

* He comes for our regular walks with us, takes rides in the car and does pretty much everything Rio does (just slower and with less damage left in his wake) .

* Sora is remarkably flexible. And climbs like a monkey

* VERY food motivated. Training will be quick (he knows sit and is getting the hang of down). He’s gaining weight now which is great to see

* He has a couple of things to work on… chewing pillows and cushions is one of them :)

* Although Rio is still learning to live with a dog who can walk into him without warning :), our two boys are getting on v well. They even play together now which is funny (i’ll try to video)

* Bloodtests came back well and other than being underweight, he looks in good health. His scars are clearing up dramatically which was an unexpected surprise (see pics below)

So that’s the quick summary. We had a great weekend, taking the ferry over to one of the islands, meeting lots of people and going on long walks. I’ll update more next week – I really need to try to do some videos of him navigating around. It’s pretty cool.

I’m not sure if words do this image justice. I guess Akuri has been promoted from “pillow” to “matress” here. Note his flexible arms and my monkey comment earlier btw

This was taken on Saturday. He’s scars are really clearing up quickly

One more – taken with a 5D Mk II and Olympus Zuiko 55mm f/1.2 for those interested in photography (which causes the cool bokeh / out of focus effect)
