New Series – Horizons – a work in progress

17 August 2009 No Comment

Thought I’d introduce my new series I’m working on. It’s called Horizons and dominates my shooting style at the moment. Although I have a couple of shots in this style from a few years ago, this really began when I moved to Seattle from Singapore and was struck by the large open spaces, rolling landscapes, etc. I wanted to shoot these beautiful scenes, but felt like so much of it had been done before.

I’ve always liked Capa’s quote “if you’re shots aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough” and i’ve lived by that for a long time, particularly with regards to street, sports, etc. This series, Horizons, is an attempt to break that golden rule, shooting people from long distances while still trying to maintain the emotion and feeling that you typically when up close.

It’s an interesting experiment and is producing some of my favourite work. A few shots are copied below. The rest are in my portfolio.
