Canon 1D Mark III

1 December 2007 2 Comments

Picked up a 1D Mark III. Was to’ing and fro’ing between this and the new 1Ds Mark III but all the extra sports / photojournalistic work I’ve taken on recently (and have lined up in the coming months) swung the decision. This means the 40D has gone – which I sold here last night. I’m keeping the 5D for FF and studio style work.

For anyone following the whole 1DMK3 AF issue, I have a camera with a serial number in the affected range so it’ll be interesting to see if I experience the same issues as Rob Galbraith and others. I knew this when I bought the camera but it didn’t hinder me for reasons I’ll cover when I report on my experience with this whole issue.

I also purchased a Canon 24mm L f/1.4 for the 1D’s 1.3x cropped sensor to give me back the 35mm(ish) focal length that has become my favourite length for close-up sports and street. I’m anticipating this will be the last L lens I buy for some time – I think my lens collection has now been rounded off nicely.

I’ve already been asked if I’ll review the 1D. Not sure yet – if I do perhaps I’ll take a different slant and do a long term review if there’s enough demand. Either way, I’ll definitely be posting samples very soon.
